Changing It Up

Surface Craft Gallery at 49 John St. is closed as of May 1, 2017.  It was a very long and thought out decision not to renew my lease and to close my brick and mortar gallery.  When I opened three years ago my goal was to have a shop to sell handmade goods....forever?  Well, at least twenty years right?  What could stop me in the city that has been voted number one over and over again?  It turns out many factors are not as they seem.  The most important thing to me is I do not regret the experience and the chance to curate and create my own American Craft gallery.  I am truly grateful for the opportunity and meeting AMAZING people along the way (I am also talking about you- the artisans, so THANK YOU).

Now that I am closed and will not be representing local and regional artists I will be continuing to sell my ceramics as Surface Ceramics.  In the next coming months they will be sold on this website as well as Sandpiper Gallery on Sullivan's Island S.C. and Juxtaposition in downtown Charleston.

Contact information is the same if you have questions about any work you have seen at Surface in the past and you would like contact information for that artist.  I would be more than happy to steer you in the right direction!

On another note the ceramics community in Charleston is in somewhat of a transition phase as well.  Cone 10 Studios, a working studio of potters in the Charleston region, will be closing in the next few months.  Another casualty in the ever changing real estate market in downtown Charleston.  In any case to assure the community can find handmade local ceramics we have formed Lowcountry Ceramic Artists.  I will be talking more about this and let you know when a site is ready for information.  For now there is a Lowcountry Ceramic Artists group on Facebook if you are a collector, an artist or would just like to know more please get in touch!

Stay tuned for much more to come from Surface Ceramics!  Online shopping and list of local clay classes will be added soon!

Thank you again for an incredible three years at Surface Craft Gallery!
